ABOUT ME

After 23 years of being in business, as a manager and independent contractor, I’m currently enrolled as a full time student graduating April 2021 in Business Management Human Resources.

10 years ago I lost 130 lbs and it has completely transformed my passion and purpose which has lead me to Human Resources and Leadership Development. I help organizations improve the quality and satisfaction by creating greater employee engagement, productivity and increased profits.

People are what wake me up in the morning. Growing up at a summer camp, I learned the value of challenging yourself outside of the comfort zone. The value of hard work and integrity are staples in my life. What brings me the greatest joy is to see people succeed whether that is personally or professionally.

While growing up at a summer camp, my father taught me many life lessons. One of which he would say when we would be leaving our campsite, "we leave it better than we found it." It took me years to put into practice this concept more on a personal level. People are very important to me and when I connect with someone on a daily basis, I do my best to leave them better than I found them, whether that is lending a listening ear, connecting that person with someone who can help them with what they need, or simply giving them a compliment.

THE PROBLEM

In 2010. I had been working at King Henry apartments for  6 1/2 years and for several years in a row, the summer occupancy dipped from 100% in the fall  to around 65-67% during the summers. This cause a variety of problems including lower profitability and a shortage of students for social activities. King Henry Apartments never had a problem at all selling out for Fall/Winter semesters but there was a real dip in occupancy rates for Spring/Summer since most of the BYU students went home.  The other problems they were facing were a disconnection between the maintenance workers and the office staff. I was the manager at the time and many of the employees were wanting raises. I spent a lot of time, trying to come up with a game plan that would not only help give a raise to the employees but increase profitability with the owners.  

THE SOLUTION

It came to me one day that in order for the upper management to justify an increase of pay to the employees, the employees would need to become more valuable to the owners. 'How could we do this,' I would think? I knew if we could increase the occupancy rate for spring summer, we would increase revenue and therefore have room within the budget for raises. I came up with a plan to have all the staff from, gardener, the maintenance worker to office staff all work together for a common goal of 100% sell out for Spring/Summer. It had never been done before. I began pulling numbers from the previous 7 years financials to devise a plan that would make sense financially. My proposal to the general manager was to put together a contest. This would include a bonus for each employee if we hit certain benchmarks and if we didn't, he wouldn't need to pay anything out. Everyone agreed and we moved forward with it. 

​THE OUTCOME


As we put forth a plan, met each week, I gave rewards to people on staff I felt were going beyond the call of duty to help sell contracts, sales increased, occupancy rates went up and we were shooting for our 100%. Checking the data on a daily basis, was a key to our success. I noticed the maintenance guys, who usually didn't pay attention to contracts sold, were in the office regularly asking how things were going, they were making extra efforts to ask tenants when they were in their apartments if they were renewing and encourage them to stay if they hadn't already considered. As a result, the apartment complex increased revenues that year by $100,000 which allowed them to give each employee a bonus they were more than happy to receive. It was a true WIN-WIN-WIN not only for the employees, but the owners and the tenants. Because of the success of this program, they have gone on to use that same incentive plan for the past 10 years making King Henry Apartments one of the most fun places to live in Provo during the summers.

THE PROBLEM

Many entrepreneurs struggle with building their businesses because they spend most of their time doing tasks that don't grow their business financially. They find themselves in that rat race of procrastination and avoidance to the more difficult but profitable activities. After meeting thousands of entrepreneurs I saw a pattern that kept these business owners all stuck from growing their businesses.

THE SOLUTION

I was asked many years ago to set up an accountability coaching program to help people declutter and organize homes. In the process, we came up with a great simple process of helping these people. As I met more and more
entrepreneurs and saw a need for similar support, I made a few adjustments to the coaching program and made it work for busy business owners. I knew I needed to make it a reasonable about a time and something that I could expect my clients to do on a weekly basis. 

​THE OUTCOME


After several months of doing Biz Blitz with business owners, it was clear to me that the solution created a tremendous amount of success. For instance, one of my clients who had been looking for a piece a paper he needed decided he would do the Biz Blitz to tackle his hardest task of all which was to get through his paperwork. During the third hour of the Biz Blitz he had finally located this piece of paper that he was in need of in order to land a $1,000,000 deal. He started off the Biz Blitz feeling like it was a bit silly but at the end, was elated to have finally found what he was looking for to furthering his business. This is just one story of many that people have shared with me. The success of this small but simple program is POWERFUL and very effective.
